Want to be a better mom?

You are here: Home / Coffee with Becky Jane / Want to be a better mom?

//  by Becky Jane Lambert//  1 Comment

Quite a few years ago I had the pleasure of reading a book entitled What Every Mom Needs by Elisa Morgan and Carol Kuykendall. During a time when I was feeling small frustrations in my life as a mother, this book was such an answer for me.  As a new mom, I found myself putting my husband and our first daughter at the top of every single priority list. For a season this works, but there comes a point when I start feeling burned out and tired. I realize I’m completely bypassing my own needs, and this starts a sad cycle of fatigue, frustration, resentment and finally anger. My poor children and husband look at me with eyes that say, “What did we do?” The truth is, they didn’t do anything! I was the one who foolishly ignored my own needs for rest and refreshment and now we all pay the price. In this book, I was reminded that my own needs are valid and important. To be a good mother and loving wife, it’s important to take a little time each day to recharge my own battery.

After I finished this book I talked with several of my friends who had also enjoyed it. It didn’t matter if they were brand-new moms like myself, or seasoned mothers with several children. Each woman said the ideas and tools the book presented helped refocus, energize and bless them.

There is not any doubt that the world wide web is a great spot to purchase newspapers if write me an essay you are searching for them.

In What Every Mom Needs, Morgan and Kuykendall identify nine areas of need each mother has. They include a desire for significance, identity, growth, intimacy, recreation, perspective, instruction, help and hope. As you read through the book, you will find yourself identifying with the personal stories shared by other mothers. You will also discover effective and simple building block strategies to help you become a better mom.

As full-time nurturers, we also need to be nurtured from time to time. If you find yourself tired and discouraged and need a little boost of encouragement, I highly recommend What Every Mom Needs.

Blessings,

    Thank you for the encouraging reminder. I have this book on my shelf. I never finished reading it. 4 years later I think I will finish it now. 🙂
