Choosing Not to Worry

You are here: Home / Coffee With Jane Claire / Choosing Not to Worry

//  by Jane Claire Lambert//  Leave a Comment

I don’t know about you, but I sometimes find myself worrying. Sure, we can all worry about homeschooling, how our students will turn out, if we are doing a good job, etc. And if you are like me,  there are probably other worries, as well. I find that most of the things I worry about are things of the future. That category would have included homeschooling when I was teaching my own children, but now there are other things in the future that give me a scare.

Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. James 4:14, NIV

Recently I’ve found this verse to be wonderfully helpful when it comes to worrying about the future. If we can’t tell what will happen tomorrow, and we might not even be around then, we’d better be enjoying the exact moment in which we are living! Look around. See with grateful eyes. Smell, taste, touch, and thoroughly enjoy. Now, do remember to give each worry to the Lord believing that He will be cognizant of it.  Do what you can for the situation, but then really enjoy the moment in which you find yourself. I don’t know about you, but it has helped me. A worry comes zinging in, I ask the Lord to take the situation and deal with it, and then I determine to focus on enjoying the beautiful sky, the howling wind, delightful little children, a pretty insect – whatever happens to be around me. It has been refreshing!

Are you a worrier? How do you handle these thoughts so they don’t overtake you?
