Mini Unit - Groundhug Day (February)
Mini Unit - Groundhug Day (February)
Don’t miss the specific spelling on this title, “GroundHUG.” It’s a holiday extravaganza–as the story mentions Groundhog Day, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, and Easter! The sweet animal friends are planning a Valentine’s Day party but are worried about whether Groundhog will be able to attend since it’s 12 days after Groundhog Day…what happens if he sees his shadow? And why does he have to retreat back into his den if he does see his shadow?
You might choose to use this unit spread out over February, March, & April…a little here and a little there, to teach your students about these holidays and their history and traditions. The lessons can be used at any time of the year! Only the Social Studies section has holiday-specific lessons. You can always save those lessons for the corresponding holiday months or study them during a different time of the year.
The book Groundhug Day by Anne Marie Pace is sold separately from the Five in a Row Mini Unit study. You can order the picture book today from your local library or purchase it online. Groundhug Day and all the go-along books will be available on our Amazon shop.
