Want an easy button for homeschooling?

Caroline Bozeman

Are you looking for ways to make your homeschool days a bit easier? We all want our kids to retain what they learn and enjoy the process. Is that asking too much? There’s an easy button when it comes to learning…we’re going to let you in on the secret.

According to research from Dr. Karyn Purvis, it takes over 400 repetitions for the brain to create a new synapse (a vital part of learning and memory formation).

Here’s where you can take advantage of an easy button for learning; it takes over 400 repetitions unless it’s done through play! Then it only takes 10-20! If a gym could promise the same fitness results from 10-20 reps versus 400, they’d have a line around the block.

A few ideas to incorporate play into everyday learning:

  • Use cards or dice games to teach counting
  • Use letter games for phonics
  • Let your child retell a story you’ve read
  • Paint spelling words on the driveway or garage door with water and a paintbrush outside (vs pencil and paper at the table)
  • Play MadLibs or Possum instead of doing a grammar worksheet
  • Sing math facts or create rhymes…6 x 8 is 48, that’s really great!
