Thank you! I love snuggling next to my children reading a great piece of literature and seeing their eyes light up with excitement when we do fun activities. So much more fun that boring old textbooks! Wish I’d done more of this with my oldest.

That’s amazing! We live in a small town, and our library is even smaller. Having all the books would make it easier to go with the flow instead of heving to really plan in advance to have the books we need.

Well I guess this is where I bow out of the competitions since I do not live in the US. Lucky that hasn’t stopped me from using this curriculum. I actually ordered the entire literature package from Rainbow Resources for BFIAR & Vol 1 of FIAR last year and the postage cost me over $150. Guess I won’t be doing that again. I have since discovered that there is a book shop in the UK that posts books worldwide for free. Definitely a better option for me.

What I love most about Five In A Row is that it’s not focused on pushing my kids to do things at an earlier and earlier age. Instead, it’s focused on developing relationships, memories, a love of great books, and then building developmentally appropriate educational experiences off those things.

I love (and maybe I already said this in a comment, it just isn’t showing yet?) that FIAR gives me the right mix of structure and flexibility. Left to myself, I have tons of ideas and then I let life get in the way. This allows me to pick and choose what I think will interest the kids from subjects I’d never think to bring up. My 6 year old sees roman numerals everywhere and even my 4 year old knows and recognizes (not to mention can say the word) onomatopoeias. Very cool.

We love FIAR because it feels intuitive for our family. My girls naturally want to keep exploring on a topic and love “going deeper” than just reading a book- they are now asking questions about minute details I hadn’t even thought of and they don’t want to stop discovery time. (They don’t realize it’s “school time!” =)
